Another great showing for the U12-G Lyon team, finalists in the Elite Gold Division at the CGSA Girls Rock tournament in Savannah, GA on Jan 23-24, 2010.
The ladies started strong with a 5-0 win over ASA Extreme on Saturday morning with goals from four different players. Their goalkeeper recording the shutout with help of her defense.
The afternoon match was just more of the same as the Lyon ladies scored an impressive 7-1 victory over the Western Wahoos. Goals were scored by five different players. The defense was again stingy and only gave up a very late free kick from just outside the box.
Things started to breakdown before the morning game with three players working on injuries but continued to play when they could as the Lyon netted a nice 3-1 win over the First Coast Academy team to make the Gold finals.
In the finals the injuries and lack of stamina (1 practice since November) caught up with the girls as they lost a 0-4 struggle against a very good GASC Lady Adrenaline (#3 ranked) team from Florida. All in all this was a terrific performance by the girls and a good start to the spring season.
