Charlotte United Girl’s College Recruiting Advisor: Katie Talbert

Date Posted: 8/13/2012

Charlotte United is pleased to announce Katie Talbert as Girls’ Program College Advisor. Katie is entering her 7th season as Queens University of Charlotte’s Head Coach, where she has developed a wealth of experience mentoring high school athletes through the college selection and application process. Katie has been on staff at CUFC for the past five years and has coached our players at both Academy and Classic levels. She now relishes the opportunity to use her knowledge to guide players at CUFC who have a desire to play college soccer.

Katie is an accomplished collegiate coach who has been named coached of the year in 3 of her 8 collegiate coaching seasons as a head coach. She also represents the Carolinas-Virginia Conference (CVAC) on the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Advisory committee, and was the Chair of the Conference Carolinas Women’s Soccer Committee in 2011. After earning her undergraduate degree in Economics at Pfeiffer University, Katie completed her Master’s Degree in Education at Averett University while serving as the head soccer and lacrosse coach.

Katie will immediately begin to guide our senior players and parents through the college process, and with an emphasis on “finding the best fit,” her responsibilities as CUFC’s Girls’ Program College Coordinator will include…

  • Educating parents and players on the college recruitment process and the differences in the recruitment procedures between the various levels of collegiate program. This will include compiling dates and educating parents and players on Elite and ID camps during the Winter, Spring, and Summer.
  • Educating parents on important steps in the admissions and financial aid process.
  • Creating tentative timelines and deadlines for each athlete according to graduation year and developing portfolios for potential college bound athletes with details regarding their specific interests and timelines.
  • Attending training sessions and games, collaborating with the athlete’s coach about players, and coordinating efforts for CUFC’s coaches to contact and refer the athlete to the colleges of interest.
  • Developing a database of head and assistant coaches at colleges and universities that former CUFC players have played and expanding the database to cover a broader range of schools.
  • Holding seasonal sessions with guest speakers from local collegiate programs of all divisions and developing a college ID showcase for CUFC only.

Katie will be formally introduced to parents and players on our senior girls’ teams shortly, and in the interim, please feel free to contact her at katie.talbert@charlotteunited.com.
