Sewanee: The University of the South
Charlotte United is pleased to announce that Reed Dowdy, 94’ Gold, has verbally committed to play for Sewanee for the fall of 2013. Reed has been with Charlotte United FC since he was a U10 Challenge player and currently plays center forward for the 94’ Gold team.
“I chose Sewanee because they have a good soccer team, great academics, a beautiful campus, and friendly people” explained Dowdy
“CUFC has prepared me with great coaches like Adam Cunha, Bill Finneyfrock and Kevin Sephton who gave me year round training since I started challenge soccer at age 10. The coaches at Charlotte United emphasized the importance of work ethic. It was due to these coaches that I developed a huge love for the game. My favorite memory with Charlotte United was during regionals in Alabama with the 94 Green team in 2011. We had to beat the team from South Texas to get through to the semi-finals of regionals. We went down 1-0 until, from the top right corner of the 18 yard box, I curled a shot to the top corner near post to equalize it. Then with 10 minutes left in the game, I scored a penalty to win it and advance to the semi-finals.” said Dowdy
“Reed is a tireless worker up top at the forward position. He can play as a single striker or he can pair up with another forward. His athleticism helps create chances for him and his teammates. Reed is also a great leader for the 94 Gold team, and he demonstrates tremendous loyalty to Charlotte United FC. He will be a productive teammate in college and also an excellent student” said Bill Finneyfrock, Executive Director for CUFC
