Rapids Sign Goalkeeper Clint Irwin

The Colorado Rapids announce that they sign former Charlotte United Player Clint Irwin to their roster!!  Clint is a native of Charlotte, N.C., and started his playing career at Charlotte United at U10 and played through U18, in his time at United he played in three State Cup Finals, winning two out of the three. Clint went on to play at Elon University where he was named All-Southern Conference in each of his four seasons on the team, setting school records in single-season and career shutouts. In 2011, he played for Capital City FC of Ottawa in the Canadian Soccer League before joining his hometown Charlotte Eagles of the USL PRO in 2012.

In an interview with Clint he stated "Charlotte United was a key part of my development, both as a player and a person. Many of the coaches I grew up with are still with the club, and were instrumental in my success. I couldn't ask for a better soccer upbringing."


"Clint came to us highly recommended and made a great impression in preseason. We’d like to welcome him to our squad,” said Rapids Technical Director Paul Bravo. 

The Rapids travel to California this week to play their final preseason matches, coming on Friday in Santa Barbara. Colorado opens the 2013 regular season on March 2 at FC Dallas, then returns home on March 9 for the home opener against the Philadelphia Union.
