The Charlotte United Futbol Club family tragically lost one of it's own on April 25, 2004, when Julian Brown became the second American youth player to die from a bus accident in France. No words can fully express the sorrow being experienced by our Club.
Brown, a midfielder, was critically injured when the bus carrying the under-14 North Carolina Olympic Development team crashed into a ditch in Paris on April 18, 2004.
Julian Brown exemplified all that is good about the thousands of boys and girls and young men and women who compete on the soccer field in their quest for fun, excellence and achievement. He was a straight-A student and freshman at Charlotte's Myers Park High School.
This outstanding young man, his parents and family are and will remain in our thoughts and prayers.
Julian Brown Memorial Fund
The Julian Brown Memorial Fund was established in June 2004. Donations to the fund will provide scholarships to young soccer players to help offset costs associated with this team sport such as participation fees and travel. Julian Brown's mother, Pam, said, "I hope this will be a way of helping to honor Julian's memory and to promote focus and dedication to soccer that our son demonstrated during his lifetime."
